Display issue when connected to cinema display

See attached photo. I connect the macbook pro (15" early 2011) to the 24 inch cinema display with the lid closed. Then if I open the lid and then close it again, the desktop becomes this. If I open the lid when no application is open and then close the lid, this problem does not occur. If I power up the macbook and type in the password when the lid is open, then this problem does not occur if I then close the lid. It only occur if I open and then close the lid if there is any open application on either the macbook display or the cinema display.

Does anyone have similar issues and know what is the reason? Thank you!

Looks like it's having difficulty rescaling the desktop image under certain circumstances. I'm going to guess it's a minor bug, if you're already up to date with 10.8.3 you can submit feedback with step-by-step how to cause it here:
