I leave my early 2011 macbook pro 2.0 GHz open and connected to an external display (HDMI connection). Upon returning the screen was partially white...the external screen was 'painted' as I moved my cursor around , the built in LCD was white as well. Clicks and typing were accepted, as if the only thing affected was the display. **Usually when waking from sleep it is at the desktop...this was at the login screen.

What could have caused this?
What is this an indication of?
IS there any way to prevent this?
Should I worry? 
