display issue

Howdy,

I'm running OSX 10.8.6 on a MBP 2011.

I hooked it up to a TV, mirrored the screens, and then disconnected it. The MBP now detects 2 screens, mirrored, and the the screen connected to the MBP appears as display 2, and at the wrong resolution.

I have tried everything, including going into system preferences. I simply cannot turn off display 2.

I appreciate any help you can give.

I tried re-booting, and many other things as well. The issue has me stumped.
