I'm having a problem with the display of my white MacBook (2008). When I turn on the machine, the display lights up for a split second and then goes black. If I turn the brightness all the way down to off, and then up one notch, it will again light up for a second but then go black again.

I have replaced both the inverter board and then the inverter cable, neither of which helped in any way. Any other thoughts on what could be wrong with it? I don't have AppleCare. I'm currently using it hooked up to an LCD monitor which I can live with if I can't fix the problem, but it would be nice to have my laptop actually be portable again.
