Hey guys.
I've been having display issues with my late 2009 iMac for over a year now and things have only gotten worse. I've spent a lot of time looking for someone with a similar problem on various forums but I never had any luck. Well, I finally found someone (on another forum) a few nights ago and their post described my computer's exact problem word for word. Sadly, there were no responses. So, I'm hoping someone here might be able to help. The original post described the issue much better than I ever could. Here it is:
"A few months ago - two, white horizontal lines of what appear to be dead pixels stretching from one side of the screen to the other appeared. Also, windows began leaving faint "ghosted" images of themselves on the screen after having been closed...and the images persist until another window or app is opened. Furthermore, there appear to be 4 odd segments of gradation on the display...The bottom segment being the darkest and the top being the most faint. It is all extremely distracting. The display drivers are all up to date, as is the operating system (Snow Leopard). I've never seen anything like this before.
Other than the display issues, the iMac functions normally. Can any of you offer any kind of insight into what is going on and is there any way to resolve the issue? The computer is awfully young (especially for a Mac) to be dying on me already."
Additional info: None of these issues show up on screen grabs which leads me to believe it is the screen itself and not hardware related (and all those tests came back fine)
I already tried installing a new LCD screen but had no luck. It sounded like the computer booted up as usual but the screen remained black despite my best efforts. Did I miss something? Did I get another bad screen? I re-installed the old screen and am now back to where I started. I'm not looking to spend a ton on repairs because I was already planning on getting a new computer soon. It's a great computer aside from the display issues and I would love to fix it up for a friend if I can.
