Display Macbook's screen on TV problem

I use the mini-DVI to VGA adapter to display my Macbook screen on my TV. My problem is that my computer's screen does not fit to the TV's screen. For example, menu bar at the top is not seen on the TV screen.
I tried to fix it through System Preferences > Displays, neither resolution fixed it.

You are viewing the external display (TV) in Extended View Mode. In order to move the Menu Bar from your MacBook to your TV, go to System Preferences/Displays and in the graphic that shows the 2 boxes, drag the upper blue bar from the little box to the bigger box.
