Display won't turn off.

I have a 2011 mbp. I have screen to turn off after 15 mins and to sleep never. The problem is, the display never turns off. I don't have much installed. I use a vnc server (vine) but it's configured to allow dimming and display turning off etc. Any idea what's causing this? Thanks.

so what happens if you turn off/uninstall the VNC server?

Keep in mind most hook the graphics subsystem in order to redirect to a remote console, I'm betting on the VNC server being the issue.
