I was using the stable drivers but could only get HD on my Dell 27 inch Ultrasharp monitors without fuzziness. So I went back to using my Windows desktop for one of the 4k monitors. I decided to switch back to my M1 mini today and I couldn't get DisplayLink to work so I installed the drivers over again but I noticed that they had an Alpha installation so I gave it a shot. The old drivers didn't work because one end of the cable was loose and I fixed that.
Imagine my surprise when I found that 3,008 x 1,692, 2,560 x 1,440, 2,048 x 1,152 and 1,600 x 900 are now supported. HD is not displayed but you can get it by holding down the Option key before clicking on Scaled. There is one other option, 1,504 x 846 in there.
Text is crisp and sharp at 3,008 x 1,692 and I am very happy to see this.
What is odd is that this issue is still broken on macOS using the HDMI port on my M1 mini - it only supports up to 2,560 x 1,440. I can go 3,008 x 1,692 on it but the fonts are fuzzy. It's a bit bizarre but if you want higher scaled resolutions, you need to go with DisplayLink.
