Forgive the rather convoluted title, but I'm looking to do the following:
MacBook Pro -> Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable -> Dell UltraSharp U2515H -> DisplayPort to HDMI cable (or adaptor) -> Samsung TV
DisplayPort 1.2 supports daisy-chaining with extended desktops over just one cable (though OS X doesn't, but that's another matter). My MBP (see signature) has DP 1.1a (in a Thunderbolt 1 port) and so I cannot utilise the daisy-chaining feature with extended desktops. Which is alright, as I'm only looking to mirror the two screens (Dell monitor and Samsung TV).
I have seen reports of this working on pre-DP1.2 machines (including the top post here).
Now, for my question: Is there anything to suggest it would be a problem for the last device in the chain (the TV) to be an HDMI device instead of a DisplayPort device?
I have tried the setup and haven't gotten it to work, but I'm unsure if the problem is the HDMI component or something else.
Any thoughts?
