(I posted this in the MacBook Pro forum, but didn't get a lot of responses, so I'm taking the liberty of repeating the post here in the hope that someone will be able to offer some advice.)

I'm looking to do the following:

MacBook Pro -> Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable -> Dell UltraSharp U2515H -> DisplayPort to HDMI cable (or adaptor) -> Samsung TV

DisplayPort 1.2 supports daisy chaining with extended desktops over just one cable (though OS X doesn't, but that's another matter). My MBP (see signature) has DP 1.1a (in a Thunderbolt 1 port) and so I cannot utilise the daisy chaining feature with extended desktops. Which is alright, as I'm only looking to mirror the two screens (Dell monitor and Samsung TV).

I have seen reports of this working on pre-DP1.2 machines (including the top post here).

Now, for my question: Is there anything to suggest it would be a problem for the last device in the chain (the TV) to be an HDMI device instead of a DisplayPort device?
I have tried the setup and haven't gotten it to work, but I'm unsure if the problem is the HDMI component or something else.

Any thoughts?
