but i am getting sick of the small screen
i have enough for a 20' apple display but is it really worth it?
or should i just buy some other brand name that is much cheaper?

I have a 20" Dell widescreen, and I love it.

And I'm an Apple fanboi. Even so, I think the Dell's a better deal for most folks.

Seconded.

The Apple displays are really overpriced for what you get. Honestly, I'd only buy an ACD if money was no object - but when money is ever a concern or consideration, it's the Dell displays all the way. We have had 3 of them at my house (2 20-inchers and 1 24-in), and they've all been absolutely terrific.

I'd be holding off just a liiiiitle bit longer, it's highly likely there will be new ACD's with built in iSight... previous model ACD's will likely drop in price.

I'm eying a 30" this year for sure.

I'd pick up the Dell 20" and save yourself some $$$. Dell's monitors don't come in such a bad looking package either; my 30" Dell was a looker.

I'll agree with the recommendations for the Dell monitors over the Apple monitors. I have one, and I can't complain about it at all.

I've got a dell 20" myself and i'll also highly recommend them over the Apple LCD. While the apple looks nice, you're really paying more for nothing as you'll get more with the Dell.

Go Dell for monitors. Pick up some ram, or an ipod or something nice for youself with all that cash you'll save.

ya thats what i think i am going to do
"Pick up some ram, or an ipod or something nice for youself with all that cash you'll save."
nope the "extra" money is going in my iphone savings account haha:) :) :p

i got a 22" widescreen Gateway LCD at bestbuy a few weeks ago to use along with my macbook pro, its really nice and has the added bonus of component hook up.

the dell screens are really nice....some of their models use the same lcd as apple uses.....or so i've read.

The ACD does have significantly better color consistency than the Dell. That said, if you don't do a lot of pro photography retouching or pre-press work, this is irrelevant.

I have used both and the ACD is a markedly better display when it comes to color, but in all other facets, it's really an aesthetics vs. price issue more than anything else.
