I just bought an HP2511X monitor, driven through my new MacBook's Thunderbolt port. If the Mac puts this screen to sleep, nothing can wake it again short of disconnecting the power from the monitor. Crazy, annoying, I'll probably take it back. I'm convinced there is no solution based on forum comments from around the world. However, if I force the Mac to go sleep, it doesn't seem to powerdown the monitor. The monitor goes to sleep a few seconds after the video signal stops. It wakes up properly in this case.

So I've used sudo pmset -c displaysleep 0 sleep 45
but the laptop doesn't sleep.
