I have two old non-working 17" laptops - one is a 2009 Macbook Pro (A1297), the other is a 2003 vintage Powerbook G4 (A1052).

The Macbook Pro had a few part replacements, including a new keyboard due to swollen battery replacement, so it's probably good for parts in the right circles. The Powerbook G4 is in somewhat worse shape, but probably also has usable parts.

Any good suggestions on what to do? I can apparently bring them to the Apple Store for recycling, but seems like a waste if there are people who would be able to use them to repair other "vintage" laptops. Is there a place that takes them, or should I just give them to Apple or an ewaste center? I assume nobody would actually buy them, or that the value is lower than shipping costs, though I could be wrong.

What would you do?

You could try selling them on Ebay for parts. I usually just recycle mine after taking out the drive. Not worth it the trouble I think. Good luck.

Some cities have a Goodwill that specializes in electronics. If there’s one of those near you, I guarantee someone will want these. And you’ll get a tax deduction.
