I have a M1 Mac Mini (16 GB).
So since some update during this summer distnoted has started to, on occasions not all the time, to gobble up huge amounts of RAM.
The thing is that I can't really pinpoint if it is an MacOS issue or some other software issue or a combination of both.
For me this is most pronounced with Microsoft software that at least triggers this behavior. Particularly OneDrive (that is trough rosetta) and in extension FinderSync, Excel (native) and OneNote (native).
Is this only me or are other people also seeing this?
And is there a way to stop this behavior (when there is no option to stop using the software mentioned above)?
Also when this RAM eating starts distnoted also starts to take up a lot of CPU cycles, this in it self is a non issue since I don't notice any adverse effects on performance in my workflow from this. But I do see that distnoted is eating CPU and I also see that my SOC temps become fairly high (with M1 standards) at around 20 above ambient instead of the usual 5-10 above ambient that I sit most of the time.
But as I said the CPU thing is, for me a non-issue. It's more that the RAM usage becomes runaway. For instans right before writing this post distnoted topped at around 10 GB of ram usage (and the system started to swap). Currently it has dropped back to "only" about 3 GB (and a 1,2 GB swap). This is strange behavior from a process that usually only should use from a couple of MB up to a couple of hundereds MB of RAM.
I did not have this behavior before my summer vacation so this is something that has creeped in with either one of the MacOS updates or MS updates since then.
