Distorted songs on burned DVD

Sorry if this isn't the right forum for this. Just got a new MacBook. I made some movies in iMovie with pictures from iPhoto, and added songs from iTunes (some bought from iTunes, some imported from music CDs). In iMovie and iDVD, these songs sound great. I burned a DVD (with iDVD) and when the DVD is played on my TV, some of the songs are distorted. The songs that are distorted are recent recordings. Could this be a copy-protection issue? Is there something available to deal with this, if indeed that is my problem. Be kind, I'm new to all the iLife apps. Thanks, Carl
