Hi all, as someone who is soon to switch to mac.
Could you tell me how the divx community fares on the mac. I am posting here instead of the divx forum because i took a bit of abuse from a lot of Pc owners there.... sad bastards.
I do a lot of encoding of homemade films with XVID and divX and i plan to write a program for the mac whenever i get my hands on one.... and highly optimize it to encode Xvid... i just want to get an idea of the current state of the community.
So what i need to know is
1) whether or not the divx codec for the mac is optimized for the altivec instruction set.
2) How do macs currently compare speed wise using the latest codec for mac and latest codec for pc on a high end system assuming dual 1Ghz G4 against a Dual Athlon 2200+. Asume same size memory in both 1 Gb. Asume also same film and same length and processing parameter selected such a Global motion compensation etc....
3) Do you reckon that there is much room for improvement in the mac codec... or do you reckon that the only thing that could currently speed up encoding on the mac would be newer hardware?
I would greatly appreciate your input on these questions,
Regards and thanks for having me here.
