Divx and White Screens

I just installed WoW and during the intro video, it seemed rather choppy and figured it was just a video being fed through some player built into WoW to play the intro video. So I find the WoW intro.avi file and no matter what I play the video in, it just shows a white screen and no sound. When I downloaded VLC player, it played the sound but it came up with an error and said that it couldn't find the codec for fourcc "DXGM" and after looking around some its some kind of weird codec, but it can still be decoded using DivX. Yet, in DivX player, it shows a white screen and no sound. I read that if I had a hexeditor I can change the DXGM in line 8 to divx and the video will play fine. Can anyone else play the WoW intro video that is in their WoW/Data/Interface/Cinematics/ folder?
Is there a hexeditor for intel os x?

Have you tried MPlayer?

If not, there is a hexeditor for mac... best one is this one:

But I really don't know how a hexeditor could somehow make the video play, no matter what you change in the file... its still that codec that it actually was using.

FYI:
VLC is still looking to make their software compatible with the codec you are speaking of, check this thread:

i got ahold of 0xED a mac hexeditor and changed lines 8 and something like line 4 (cant remember off the top of my head) and changed DXGM to divx and saved the file, everything opens and runs the files fine now.

I have messed with mplayer a while ago in my linux days. I guess I will give it a shot :)

THanks

p.s. I have no idea how you found that videolan thread on dxgm I tried looking everywhere for something like that.
