I just got a great deal on a 2G iPhone with a broken home button. The button works a little, you need to push on it really hard. Other then that, the phone works great. I've seen the video on disassembling the iPhone, it looks pretty difficult but manageable. I can get the new home button and the tools for $13 shipped.

Any chance I'll be able to disassemble this puppy and replace the home button? Do I have any chance of success or am I kidding myself? On the electronic handyman scale I'd say I'm slightly above average in skills, but far from a pro.

The phone is not under warranty, so I doubt having Apple fix it will be cost effective. I figure at worst I somehow kill it, then I can sell the parts on ebay to get my money back. The screen is perfect!
