DJ Basics equipement

I'd like to start mixing and I wanted to know what equipement I need to get started. I looked into solutions like the iDJ for ipad and the vestax Spin both they seem pretty limited. I looked into stanton products and they seem overwhelming for my needs. Could someone direct me on the right track?

I'll be mixing audio files for now no vinyls or cd's

I'd also need software. I've started using Djay but I still prefer the free version of Virtual DJ.
