I am backing up some of my videos on Verbatim DL DVDs (made in singapore), and I was wondering what the lifespan is for them? I will be rarely playing them, they will basically be just sitting in my cd case as a backup. How many years can I expect them to last, just sitting in my cd case? (assuming my cd case is not ran over by a car or burned up?). A lifetime? Thanks.

I've been really interested in this same issue.

What I discovered is that basically nobody knows.

The biggest factors in keeping discs viable is to keep them out of direct sunlight and to keep them in a cool, dry place. Moisture and heat are major enemies.

They might last for 50 years, maybe only 10.
