DL'ed video (mpeg) to iPod ~ HOW?

My best friend (recent switcher) with an iBook G4 and video iPod has a problem. He has downloaded some videos via Limewire which are Mpeg format. What does he need to do in order to get them on his iPod? I recommended Handbrake, but it's not recognizing the videos. I did some searching, but only found posts about ripping DVDs to iPods. Thanks a lot!
