I’m an independent software developer, and one of my macOS apps recently started appearing on a few piracy sites.

I followed the standard route and submitted DMCA notices to the infrastructure providers involved, expecting at least a clear explanation of what was missing or required. Instead, I received responses saying that they were unable to identify the infringement I described.

What surprised me wasn’t just the outcome, but how opaque the process felt. From my perspective, the copyrighted material was clearly being redistributed, yet the enforcement mechanism seemed to stop at a very early stage.

I’m not trying to single out any specific company here — I’m genuinely trying to understand how DMCA enforcement works in practice, especially for small developers without legal teams.

For those who’ve been through something similar:
is this just something indie developers are expected to accept, or are there approaches that actually work better in reality?
