Setup:
-I have a Snow Leopard Server running the DNS service on a MAC Mini.
-I have an aiport extreme which I have setup as the primary DNS = Snow Leopard Server and secondary DNS = Open DNS. Domain name on Airport Express is listed as the fully qualified domain name of my Snow Leopard Server.
iPhones and PC's always resolve DNS from snow leopard server.
However, my 2 Snow Leopard laptops seem to stop resolving requests from Snow Leopard server. They keep defaulting towards secondary DNS servers. For example on my Mac Book Pro when I ping the Snow Leopard Server using an IP or hostname I get no reply. However, I can ping the name and address from an iphone or a pc without any problem. If I reboot my aiprort express it usually resolves this issue until my laptop is put to sleep. I can't figure out what is going on and it is really driving me crazy. I tried statically putting in the DNS settings in my SL laptops all to no avail. They both just eventually stop sending and receiving DNS requests from the SL server they end up using Open DNS or Comcast DNS instead of the SL server which is the primary. One thing I can do is when the laptop has trouble sending and receiving DNS requests with the SL server I can VPN into the SL server from my LAN or WAN and while on a VPN connection all requests start working again. I sure wish I wouldn't have to VPN in from my LAN to talk to SL server.
Any ideas out there?
Please?
