iPod touch DNS problem with VPN

When connecting to my VPN server using my Touch 2g (firmware 2.1.1) I can connect to hosts using their IP address but not their host name.

I have searched the forums and have found many others having the same problem but no solution.

Has anyone who is having this problem contacted Apple to report it? If so, what is their response.

I would like to report this problem but the Apple support site doesn't provide any easy way to open an issue.
