It's been my understanding that iOS essentially encapsulates apps in their own respective sandbox -unless the user grants them permission to access certain files or make connections with other apps. But recently I saw a report claiming that WeChat actually gathers all your information from your device and then forwards it to the parent company Tencent and the CCP.

While I'd appreciate a yes or no answer; I'd be even more grateful for an answer that enables me to understand how exactly this may or may not be the case.
