I just got a bumper and a case in today from amazon and I feel like after a few weeks, the sides of the phones will be scratched up. Does that happen with your previous iphones?

It's happened to me before and I seen it happen to somebody else, not with a Bumper though.

With the supposed scuff issue with the new black iPhone, I wonder if snap on cases might cause problems down the line..

I've had an iphone 4 in a pixel HD case since day one. I've baby'd the phone as best I could. However, the metal rim is scratched/ding'd all around.

Basically, if small grains of dirt can get into the gaps between the phone & case (and they will after some time), then scratches can occur.

My screen is perfect however, as it's always had a protector on it...

Agreed. Anytime small pieces of dust get into any case they can scratch. It happens more with hard cases which is why it is suggested by most to get a hard rubber case or a case with a rubber inside and hard plastic outside.

Another option if you really want to baby it is getting a skin and then finding a case that fits with the skin on it. But little scratches are bound to happen. I have had a clear hard plastic case on my ipod and I took it off yesterday for the first time in forever to small scratches- it just happens. Nothing will keep everything out unless you get a otterbox or lifeproof or something similar.

and even an otterbox can cause scratching. used one with my Motorola Droid and the bezel on the front of the phone got lots of micro-scratches all over it after a very short period of time (like a week).

I use Flex Series from Otterbox and it scratched the silver sides of my iphone.

That's interesting. In a thread about "do you still have your launch day iP4" there are a couple of people that say they went naked for all this time and have only small minor scratches, almost look as new.

If you could guarantee to not drop your phone, then naked would be the way to go, but if you need impact protection, then that means you need a case. The In-Case slider I had on my iP3G scratched the back severely, but I did drop the phone maybe 3 times in those 4 years and never a dent in the phone. Went naked on the screen about a year ago, and have minor scratches on it, but the new phone has Gorilla glass and should be much more resistant to scratches.

I'm thinking I will go with a LunaTik case when they come out and go naked until then. We'll see.

The original apple bumper scratched the iPhone 4 and 4s due to the fact that the inside was hard plastic.

I am opting to go with http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/apple-iphone/iphone-5/iphone-5-case-neo-hybrid-ex-series.html

The inside will be soft tpu while having a hard plastic band on the outside.

I emailed sgp with the following questions:

Hi, I have a few questions in regards to the neo hybrid ex for the iPhone 5. 1. Will it include a back and front film protector? 2. If back protector is included would it be one full sheet (like iphone 4s) or 3 separate pieces due to new design of the iPhone 5? 3. Will the films be wet or dry application? 4. When will this product be available? 5. Does SGP allow will call pick up/purchase? I am located in Los Angeles Sorry for the long inquiry really appreciate it if you can answer my questions

This was their response:

Thank you for your interest in our products! The Neo Hybrid EX for the iPhone 5 will include a front and back screen protector. I do believe it will be a one piece like the iPhone 4s. The Steinheil Series screen protectors are all dry installation screne protectors. Unfortunately, we have not received a confirmation from our manufacturers and therefore it is uncertain when the product will be available at the moment. If you do reside in Los Angeles, you are more than welcome to purchase the item from our facilities. We currently only take walk-in customers at the moment.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Thank you.
