Hi,
I have an iPhone7+ with latest beta iOS (10.3.2) and I was looking for an every day, careless use, cheap, lightning alternative to Apple earpods. It was a little bit tricky to find a pair of earpods with incorporated mic but finally I found it on Amazon and GearBest from China.
The problem is that both of them work as "USB Audio Device" for a variable length of time (I didn't understand if it is related to earphone controls usage) then an "iPhone does not support this accessory" message appears and I have to remove it.

Can someone shed some light on this and tell me what's going on?

Thanks

What I know, apple also sell an adapter, fact is,that I use one for my iPhone 6,as the case I use makes it impossible to connect headphones of older types, with square plastic on the 3,5 MM contact. The hole in my phone case is just a bit too narrow, and as I don't like original earbuds,my only option was to get an adapter.
