I'd like to have my front porch light come on when it gets dark for more visibility to my front door. Instead of getting a smart light switch I was wondering since I have an ATV4K, if I were to get a homekit enabled lightbulb, would the lightbulb be smart enough to turn on/off, or do I still need to get the switch?

You would need to set up the automation in the home app on an iOS device or Mac.
Then you would turn the switch to on and leave it that way. The light would be able to come on/off at a specific time when you leave or come home etc... or you could choose on at sunset and off at sunrise that's the way my porch light is set up.

Perfect! Thanks.
