Hello,

Yesterday, as I was copying files to one of my external drives (a 2TB Caviar Green) the copy simply paused, then hanged, and I had to restart the Finder, which crashed, and I had to force a restart on my 2009 MP.

After the reboot, I mounted the drive again, and made a successful back-up without a problem. As long as I don'T try to copy a file to the drive, it works flawlessly.

So, is my drive about o die, or is it simply a bad sector?

Check SMART status of this disk (using SMART Utility or similar software), verify/repair drive (not permissions) in DU and see what it will tell you.
See also logs in console, error which caused hang should be there (in system.log probably). It could be dying drive or external enclosure you're using or even bad cable.

Hello,

SMART doesn't work with external drive (eSATA in any case) so I'd have to switch one of my drives. In the mean time I used drive genius to scan the entire drive (took about 4 hours) for bad sectors: nothing...
