Correct me if I'm wrong, but settings the flash setting (the lightning bolt in the camera app) to on is supposed to flash the LED when I take the picture....right? Because mine doesn't. Am I missing something?

See if it lights up at all by setting up to shoot a video and turn the flash setting from Off or Auto to On. If it doesn't light up at all, your device may be defective.
