FCP11 was announced earlier today and I’ve been running FCP10 on my ancient 2018 Mac Mini since purchasing FCP10 a few months back in June.

With FCP11 being announced today on 11-13-24, I’m wondering if it’s a free upgrade. If so, I think it’s time for me to purchase a newer M Series Mac.

Doesn't appear like you need to pay for the upgrade. I just pressed the upgrade button in the MacOS App Store, downloaded FCP11, and I'm running it now.

I can't remember the last time I paid for a FCP upgrade. I almost never use FCP these days, but it has been one hell of a bargain given how long I've been allowed to stretch that one purchase.

Thank you for the quick reply

Any and all FC updates are FREE.

It's also pretty easy to just check without having to ask? Go to the App Store, check your updates or the FC page… and download. Done. 👍🏼

As mentioned in the original post, I’m on an archaic older Mac and wanted to see if 11 was only compatible with M Series Macs.

Plus, someone’s gotta make sure MR Forums stay alive.

Again, maybe just look in the App Store?

And no. it's not Apple Silicon only. Only certain features are. Those that need Apple's AI. It's all in the release notes!
