Do I have to pre-order?

I'd really just prefer to walk into a store on the 14th and buy my iPhone 4S. From what I understand all pre-orders are being shipped, correct? So if I just want to go to my Apple Store, do I need to do anything tonight?

If that's all I have to do, I should be good. I live in a relatively small town, but we have an Apple Store. For the 3GS I walked into the store after work around 6pm and got one no problem. Not gonna wait that long this time; I'll just go sometime in the morning.

Why not call ahead to make sure they have shelf stock in ?
