You can text with the iPhone upside-down, sideways, or backwards. It may be more difficult to type, but if you have a good idea of the one and only key layout, it shouldn't be too bad. There may be a learning curve, though. It's all just a matter of personal preference.

Yes upright only. The iphone is capable of landscape mode texting but only if jailbroken. I believe Apple will update it eventually.

Unless you jailbreak and download irealsms.

Here is what is looks like

LOL, no need to rub it in to the people who are anti-jb. But it is so much easier texting in landscape!

The OP never said anything about being anti-Jailbreak. But I think that the texting is a good reason for him to consider it :). I will never go back to an unjailbroken phone. It's too bland.

I don't have a problem texting in portrait mode.

I don't either, I like it. But there are times when landscape is more convienient/comfortable. :D

I don't either. You can get quite fast with auto-correct. However, not as fast as in landscape! And if you're typing in another language, landscape texting is the way to go!

Oh, I didn't mean the OP with that. It was just the first time I saw someone posting pictures of realsms in this (nonhacks) forum. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

What does landscape have to do with typing in another language?

When you're typing in another language (that doesn't have autocorrect) you have to hit every letter correctly (since you're not being corrected). When you're in landscape mode, the virtual keyboard is spaced further apart and the letters are bigger as opposed to portrait mode. Since the letters on the keyboard are much bigger, you are less likely to make an error while typing. And since you make less errors, you can type faster!

biteSMS is free, if all you want is landscape SMS (it also does SMS forwarding, though). It's a good app - a little buggy, though, I find I need to exit the app and go back in to read a new text. But all in all, nice to be able to text in landscape!
