Do I Need an Airport Base Station for Apple TV?

Hi All,

I'm swallowing my male pride and admitting I don't get it....

I've recently bought an iMac and just received my new Apple TV. Do I need an Airport (Express/Extreme) base station in order to connect the Apple TV to iMac wirelessly?

I was told in a store that I could connect the Apple TV directly to the iMac via WiFi, however there may have been an assumption on the part of the sales person I had an existing network.

I only use a USB Modem to connect to the internet so don't have any networking created by broadband internet.

Under System Preferences->Networking you can use the iMac's Airport to create a network that the AppleTV can join.

Just select "Create Network..." from the Network Name dropdown list.

I've been trying to create a network under the system preferences but without success.

I've been able to create a computer to computer network but the Apple TV can not seem to find it. The status light next to the Airport Network remains Amber, I'm assuming it needs to be green to be active?
