Just curious what would cause me to need antivirus on my mac? I have ESET on my mac but it seems to slow it down a bit. I do use torrents & download mp3s from blogs. Should I keep this on?

No, you don't need anti-virus programs, unless you are running windows, through parallels, or fusion or bootcamp.

I do have one only because you never know what other sites are like out there....

No need for Virus scanners, never used them on a Mac and I never will, chances of running into a Mac virus is like finding a needle in a haystack.

However if you use Windows I suggest getting some protection for that side, but all in all you don't really need it while using OSX.

I've been using Macs for over 10 years and never once have I ran into a virus.

But if you run Windows through either virtualzation or Boot Camp, you'll definitely want to install a good virus scanner.

I actually have ClamXav as my virus scanner. Mainly because I scan almost all my downloads after I get them haha. You really don't need it at all, but it's a nice safe guard for yourself haha

you could just disable the "on-access" scanner wich is what is slowing things down and then just do a complete scan every now and then if you feel unsecure
