Do I need to have a social security card or just the number?

I don't have my social security card, but I have my number on an index card. Will I have issues getting my phone without a card?

My dad gets asked for it sometimes at other places, so was just wondering here.

I did a double take when I first read it as well. I was wondering why the heck they would need your SSN for. Then I re-read it and realized i read it wrong. They need your SSN for a credit check and a tie to your wireless account. If you are new, they will use it to tie it to your new wireless account.

Pretty sure you only need the last four digits.
