I just got a dell monitor and just wondered if I needed to keep the box. I wanted to use it for shipping but I wasn't sure if I needed it. I'm wondering how warranties work, do they send you a new box, or are you supposed to send the original back? Simple question but kinda important to me.

If you have room, and are worried about it, I would keep it. Don't know how Dell handles, this, but I have done warranty exchanges both ways. Often times the box they send you won't fit the equipment to be returned as well as it should.

This may be especially true with a monitor where they change regularly, and may replace yours with an "Equivalent" model - but with a different box insert.

well I'm going to keep the inserts

so has anyone actually ever received support from dell on a display that required replacement?

We use a lot of Dell equipment at our office and in my experience Dell usually just swaps the monitor out for a new new monitor if the issue is something they can't fix over the phone.

Concerning you're Dell box, if you have room keep it. Perhaps in your attic or basement. It is nice to be able to ship a monitor back in the original box if a warranty replacement is needed. It is also nice to have if you decide to sell it. Having the original box always seems to fetch a higher selling price in my experience.

I would keep everything... if anything ever happens, you wouldn't want the box to be the reason why they wouldn't replace it.

I don't like sayings, but "It's better to be safe than sorry".

How do you like the Dell Monitor?

Boxes are very useful if you want to sell the item, on eBay for example. "In original box" or "boxed" seems to be more appealing to would-be buyers.

I decided to keep the box, thanks. I am really liking the dell monitor, I might have liked the look of the ACD but this was a few hundred dollars cheaper and it has a bunch of ports including hdmi which is great because I have my PS3 hocked up to it.

I think a good policy is to keep boxes for kit that you can see yourself selling somewhere down the line.

KEEP IT!!!

run it as:

1. torrent downloader
2. file server
3. Games machine
4. music sharing device
5. folding @ home helperouter.

etcetcetc..

That's what I was thinking when I read the thread title. Fortunately, I also read the first post, and saved the embarrassment. :D :p

hahaha shoosh you.

why do you even need to keep the box haha?? its a monitor not a life transporter. the monitor shouldnt have any problems anyways, dell SEEM to be pretty good with monitors...

Keep it. If you ever eBay it, it would be nice to sell it off in the original box.
