I have a bunch of files like .DMG & others cramming up my downloads folder,do I really need to even hold onto those files? Can I delete them,or would I need to keep them?

It would make sense for the uninstaller to be installed when the app was installed. Check to see if associated apps have one stashed away in the app's folder.

Agreed, but make sure none of the apps those DMG files are for need an uninstaller. Some applications can be just dragged to the trash, but the odd one needs a specific uninstaller to remove.
:)

Just about all of the apps I have installed don't have their own uninstaller (well bigger apps like Photoshop & things like that have them, but not the smaller ones).

adobe stuff would, their horrible about scattering stuff all across your drive... disgusting

That's why I said very few apps not no apps. Adobe CS#, TechTool, system addons, and so forth usually have uninstallers. The vast majority of other applications can be uninstalled by dropping the app/folder in the trash.
