Do I need to upgrade my iphone 4 to iOS5 for my new iphone 4S?

My iphone 4 is current still on 4.1 iOS jb and can be unlocked w/ Grevey sim.

My iphone 4S is coming this friday and I would like to keep my iphone 4 (unlocked) as a backup phone for overseas and using my new iphone 4S in US.

Would all my app and game data got transfer to my new iphone 4S if i didn't upgrade my iphone 4 to IOS 5?

I tried to save the BB using iFaith but I got error saying my phone is not supported. I am not sure what should i do for now? Friday is coming.
