Do i really need to give put credit card info to get Free app's ?

I signed up for an Apple ID and when i try to download FREE app's i am asked for verification requisitoir my credit card details, is there à waY afrond this ?

You may be able to buy an iTunes gift card instead of a credit card.

Looks like buying à gift card is THE waY avond it..

I use the gift cards. It's easy and keeps my spending in line. :| It's also good to keep your eyes open for any great gift card deals that come down the pike. Walmart was selling $100 gift cards for $80, in the US. Pretty wicked.
