do keyboard protectors leave smudges on the screen when closed?

Yes. No matter how oleophobic the material is, the protector is only oil-resistant. Once the oil on your fingers contacts the protector, and the protector contacts the screen, the oil is transferred or smeared.

yep. you will see almost an exact imprint of the keyboard on your screen. you somteimes see this even without it which might mean your bag is pushing on your laptop.

Yes, it cannot be helped. But depending how much dirt there is, the smudges should not become immediately obvious, but regular cleaning should do the trick.
