I read somewhere that if you buy the latest generation Mac and it is discontinued, you get support for a long time.

So if you buy a 2019 15" base model MacBook Pro and it is discontinued in September for the 16" then you will get more support?

IMO,
2018 could get a longer support(in terms of OS updates) than 2019, because the hardwares are almost the same.

Something similar happened in the 2010 and 2011 models before the new iteration in 2012.

The 2011 and 2012 non-Retina models are similar. The latter has received official MacOS support for longer, though this wouldn't have been possible to predict in 2012. So no one really knows.
[doublepost=1565134726][/doublepost]I agree the 2018 and 2019 models will probably be dropped at the same time, just as the Early and Late 2011 models were. It's safe to assume the 2018 models will get at least 8 years of official MacOS support.
