hey guys, I just ordered an LTE enabled series 4 Apple Watch. I’ve only ever used the wifi models. Besides being able to use the watch without a phone, are the LTE enabled watches faster? Do they load apps faster? I know that for the series one the watch needed the phone to load apps. Are the apps stand alone on the series 4? Or only if you have LTE? On the LTE models are the apps being loaded directly off the watch? Is it faster then using wifi?

Nothing faster on an LTE watch than a non-LTE version of the same Series. The Watch needs the iPhone to pair with the watch to download apps and share data. The connection can be via Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi.

If it's a direct connection using cellular it should be a lot quicker than going through the iPhone I'd hope. It's been my pet peeve how slow it can take to open my garage door with the Chamberlain app. Among a few other apps.

Ahh, you garage door opener is not connected to the cellular network. It is connected via Wi-Fi so it will take just as long or even longer. Next up would be your watch using Wi-Fi which in most cases will be faster than LTE or Bluetooth.

But if the app is already on the watch then can’t it just load the app directly? Shouldn’t matter if it’s on wifi or LTE as long as it’s connected to the internet it shouldn’t have to talk to the phone first
