Do many laptops nowadays have no firewire? (Besides MBP)

I noticed Sony Vaios don't even have them. Let alone MBs. Also the mainstream Toshibas and HPs.

Is this a phase even those manufacturers doing? Or am I missing something? I noticed this might not single out what I might purchase to necessarily have firewire. Maybe a custom desktop should do that.

What do you think?
 
My Toshiba is about a year old now, but back when I bought it, it seemed almost every laptop worth more than $700 had a firewire, most were small connections though. Mine has one and it works very well
 
The newer ones though...

I mean, isn't mainstream music recording done on desktops anyways? What about at college? Will recording computers be available?

If so, is a MB for college all that worth it?
 
You may wish to change the title to say new MB's as the MBP's do have them. We have purchased some HP's at work without FW.
