Do my contacts pictures get backed up iCloud as well?

I know all my contacts get saved to the cloud but what about the pictures attached to each contact? Do those he backed up as well or is just the info and that's all?

So if I say lost my phone today and had to restore my contacts from the cloud it would restore all my pictures as well?

Contact pictures

I lost my contacts (twice) on my new iPhone 4S because I'd inadvertently deactivated iCloud (not realizing it has to be activated and in sync or your contacts list WILL disappear). My favorites, sans names, were still there, but just the numbers, no names. I couldn't figure out why my contact list just disappeared then realized it must have had to do with deactivating iCloud. When I reactivated iCloud, all the contacts came back in tact but WITHOUT the individual pictures I'd loaded to those contacts that I had pictures for originally. No biggy, I just reloaded the pics.

One thing I found to be a pleasant surprise is if I am on my computer adding contacts, within a few seconds my phone is updated, photos included.

So according to what Rodeomary is stating above the pictures associated with contacts atelier not backed up to iCloud !

That's weird. For some reason, my contact pictures aren't being synced from my Mac to iOS 5.

I've already tried turning off contact syncing on my phone, deleting the contacts and then re-syncing them. Pictures still aren't updating.
