I have the POS X1900XT in my current Mac Pro, its a Aug 06 Model,

Can the new cards even work in the older mac pros?

Is there any hope for those of us who bought a 2006/2007 Mac Pro?

According to the guide, I think I have a Rev. A Mac Pro (2 x 2.66 Ghz)...

I currently have the x1900, is the 3870 worth $200+? Is there any hope that a 4870 will be released for us?

You choose between the 8800GT and the 3870.

ATI might make it's own version of the 4870, but I doubt it.

You can hope and pray that ATI secretly added EFI 32 to the new graphics card (they did it before).

I had that machine (was 3ghz but same rev) and upgraded from x1900 to the 3870 - was a nice upgrade. I would wait until 4870 is out and if as it sounds you won't be able, then the 3870 will be quite a bit cheaper i would think and will still be faster (and quieter and less heat!) than the x1900
