I've had this device for all of 4 months now, and it crapped out on me during a major major project I was working on for a client. Since I need that data off the drive NOW, I couldn't wait for them to send me a new enclosure and drive with my data on it, so I had to crack the case, take out the drive, and put it in a new enclosure to find out if the drive had failed. NOPE! It was the miniMate. The drive works fine in its new case. Now I have a $140 USB/FW hub, since the ports still seems to be working. What a ripoff! Stay away from this device

To be honest just because yours broke down it doesn't mean that it is crap, it would only be crap if lots of them are breaking all the time for too many people (which may be the case but we don't know). All devices from all brands can break.

What a pointless reply. If someone wants to buy a miniMate, that's up to them...I'm just letting everyone know I had a bad experience with mine, and they might want to stay away from it. If people like myself didn't complain that a device wasn't working, nobody would know about it.

Honestly, don't you have better things to do with your time?

I don't understand. So basically because of a coincidence that is no one's fault (a defect, which may or may not be unreasonable, at a time when you're crunched for time on a project), you're making a generalization about the entire product line. It sounds like they tried to offer to replace it and fix the situation. What, pray tell, have you to complain about? Get the manufacturer replacement and be on with it. Sell it on eBay if you think it's such an awful product.

You weren't just complaining, you were straight up telling people that MiniMates are junk! There is a difference!! ;)

I have heard of a few other reports of people having problems with either the device or the drive inside since it is reportedly a refurbished HD. They did not offer to replace it, although if I had the time to spare to send it in and wait for the return I'm sure they would have. Their customer service isn't what I question...it's the quality of their products. Since opening your case to take out the drive in a situation like I was in voids the warranty, manufacturer replacements are not the issue.

Good god people...get a life! If you don't want people warning you about products...don't read the thread! If you disagree with someone's warning...ignore it!

Don't you think you have better things to do with your time than to reply to "pointless" replies?

Oh... and if you hate the product so much you should probably take it out of your sig.

I don't know about anyone else, but I read the thread because I had no idea wtf a Micronet miniMate was.

This board is filling up with people trying that come on here to do nothing but disagree with other people...what a waste.

In my opinion, the miniMate is a piece of junk. Whether or not it failed at a time of importance is NOT important. In the eyes of a manufacturor, there are no "good" times for a device to fail. A failed device is a failed device, plain and simple. I've said my piece, if you disagree with me, fine...go ahead and buy one. But a user getting a 4 month life span out of one of these things should be a flag for some people.

No... I'm pretty bored right now. You must be too to reply to a "pointless" reply regarding your reply of yet another "pointless" reply.

Please will a mod close this thread...too many F'n trolls around here these days.

Dude, you guys get way too worked up over these sort of things.
You're asking to close the thread you started?
You brought the trolls on yourself my man. Just get another drive and shut up already. Nothing we can do for you.

(yet I still will not buy anything I've never heard of, like a MicroMate, minimate, whatever the hell it is.)

Hmmm...

Another reason I tend to shy away from devices that try to do more than one thing...granted, they do save space, but in my opinion tend to be less trustworthy (not to fail).

Oh, I had a car break down a few months after I bought it...WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T BUY A CAR!!! IT MIGHT BREAK DOWN!

You can go for a more universal exit strategy.

Life is overated, relationships will break down at the worst possible moment, get out of any life/relationship problem -- try suicide. :p

Edit: Or, when a fuzzy muppet scares you, it's time to die.

On a serious note, I had a regular Micronet USB/FW drive (not minimate, just an external HD) and the same thing happened and I had to take it out and void warranty too. Stinks!

Once I bought Charmin toilet paper and it ripped and my finger poked through...

DON'T EVER BUY TOILET PAPER.
