If you use Parallels Desktop 17 with Windows 11, do NOT let Windows 11 perform the latest updates, it will crash within 5-10 minutes of use.
I use a lifetime Parallels 17 license and it has been rock solid with Windows 11 Pro for more than a year. As a long time Windows user, I know the importance of having the latest updates in Windows and I did perform those regularly every time I have to use the Windows 11 virtual machine. Well, everything changed a few days ago since Microsoft announced its official support for Windows on Mac through Parallels 18 (Parallels 17 is not included in the official support). I did the latest updates on Windows 11 and I could not work more than 10 minutes without Parallels crashing and pulling me out of Windows.
Each time it crashed, I had the message that I am using the latest version of Parallels 17 and Parallels 18 is available to upgrade. Mind you, I have disabled in Parallels any checks for updates or newer versions, but apparently it is still happening.
How I fixed it > I used time machine to restore the Windows 11 Pro virtual machine to a time before the Windows updates that coincided with Micro$oft announcing its official support along with Parallels 18 and now the problem is completely solved and there are no more crashes. I have also disabled the automatic updates in Windows 11 and I will leave it like that. Someone is playing dirty here to push users to upgrade; it might be Microsoft, Parallels or both... but not cool at all. I hope this prevents any headaches for users that use a similar setup.
