There is a bug in IOS 17 that will cause the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro models to get stuck in a boot loop if you try to use the data transfer option when upgrading from your previous iPhone. You will have to put the phone into DFU mode, update the software, and then try to do the data transfer again. Apple says this can be avoided by just using the iCloud backup option.

Not the worst thing in the world but I know if upgrading to a new phone the last thing I'd want to be doing is putting it into DFU mode and then restoring and updating it. Apple's support document is below:

It seems a can happen situation it worked perfectly well for me

Well that's grim...it seems like a function that would be on the "needs to be thoroughly tested" list as part of the development process.

Once my phone activated before I could even choose to transfer it told me I needed to update to 17.0.2.

That’s what I had expected to see but did not so I had to back out of the transfer screen on my old phone.

Of course if you use iCloud, it gets stuck about 1/2 way through as the servers are completely hammered. It was showing as over an hour to finish restoring from backup.

That’s why I always now use that quick start, less than half the time and everything is ready to go once finished. Today though had its peculiar issue. I waited almost 15 minutes before backing out of the process which would not complete until I could get 17.0.2 installed.

I don’t know if this is related to data transfer or that iOS 17 is buggy, but my iCloud account recovery list was empty on my new phone. The only way I found to get them to show was to remove them from another device and add them again.
