Do you all feel there is an audience for an Apple Watch Ultra "SE"? What I mean by that is a smaller version of the Ultra (say 45mm) and with a few less capabilities (ex. no dive tracking).

I basically want a rugged durable Apple Watch for working out, hiking etc. but the Ultra is sooo massive. Also, I feel like some features Apple can remove to save costs as they are more niche.

Thoughts/comments?

What you're describing sounds a bit like a 7/8 in stainless.

I think there should be a smaller Ultra for people with smaller wrists.

I like the ultra's flat screen, but could do with less thickness. I don't need multiple-day battery life, charging once a day works for me. So a thinner ultra, perhaps with a slightly smaller screen, yes please.

Count me in the nope nope nope group. Part of what makes the Ultra great is battery life. Going smaller reduces the battery. I'd go so far to say that's the main reason for the size. Now, maybe a larger Series watch, sure, for what you want.

The one thing I don’t particularly care for (though it’s a minor annoyance) is how far the Ultra stands out from my wrist. So I’d love a slimmer version.

But not at the expense of battery life.

As far as a reduced feature set … the Ultra is already something of a niche product. So the price of me getting feature X that is significant to me is also having feature Y that means nothing to me but is significant to you. I’m cool with that, especially since — who knows? — I might someday discover that I kinda like feature Y, too, after all.

For example, Backtrack was completely off my radar until after I learned about it. Now I don’t want a watch without it.

S6 and onwards all have backtrack as long as they're using Watch OS 9. I'm sure you know that but just pointing it out since it could be interpreted that it was strictly an Ultra feature. :)

I would like a smaller Ultra, more tailored for a woman with a smaller wrist. While there may be plenty of women who bought the Ultra and are happy with the size and aesthetic, sadly I am not one of them. It was too big for me.

That's basically what I'm getting at.

I doubt Apple could get the 36 hour battery life in a smaller Ultra - but even an improvement to 26-28 hours would be useful too.

Even for smaller wrist, I don’t Want a smaller Ultra. It’s there for battery life and bigger screen plus all the niche features non-athlete won’t care much. Reduced battery life defeats the design goal of this product imo. By that point, Apple would’ve just released Apple Watch series 8 plus to differentiate.

This wouldn't replace the Ultra...this would be in addition too. But looks like no crowd on MacRumors for this smaller Ultra lol

That would defeat the purpose of what the Ultra is for and is supposed to offer and it would no longer be an Ultra but a slightly upgraded regular Apple Watch.

They do a 41/45 combo on the S8. Maybe a 45/49 combo on the Ultra. Yeah, there might be compromises but with the standard miniaturization of tech over the march of time, maybe not. Maybe 12-24 months from now it will be feasible to maintain all of that.

The feature rich Ultra vs the feature lacking SE. That’s a bit contradictory to put the two together. I can understand a smaller version of the exact same thing but not so much a smaller and gimped version. That defeats the “Ultra” title

Ultra Mini might be more fitting.

Ha ok ok I edited the title to remove "SE"; the post was about a smaller Ultra, not giving Apple marketing names :p

I wore a Rolex for 20+ years 24x7 before switching to the Apple S3. Maybe that's why the size and weight doesn't bother me. And honestly, the Ultra is not much bigger than the S8 and doesn't feel heavier than the S8 does to me. And, oh, that battery life! ❤️

But if you don't like it, you don't like it. Find what you like!
